Our service team completed a major upgrade and maintenance of the pump station at Melbourne’s iconic outdoor performance venue.

An iconic venue, The Sidney Myer Music Bowl, is an outdoor performance venue located in Melbourne, Australia. Our service team periodically maintains a pump station installed at the venue and it was due for a service upgrade and its periodical maintenance.

We hired a contractor for the usage of a vacuum truck at the venue. A vacuum truck is essential in the maintenance of a pump station as it allows for cleaning the stormwater pipes and emptying the septic tanks. In this project, the vacuum truck was used to allow access to the confined space work for handling the large amounts of liquid contained around the pumps and to suction the leftover debris and sludge from the procedure.

The pumps in use are Vortex Pumps with auto couplings which are used for the discharge connection. These pumps are heavy duty and are inspected thoroughly by our service team, who observed that they are still in good working condition. Therefore, the pumps didn’t need to be replaced and were reinstalled after the completion of confined space works, and the system operation was checked in its entirety.

The site also contains a confined entry space where we hired an external plumber to go down into the pit to do the required maintenance work. With the assistance of two of our service team members, they were able to provide some guidance and communicate effectively for the smooth execution of upgrading the pump station.

We also have an electrician in-house to improve the controls and functionality of the system for the future. The controller installed initially has been upgraded to the latest technology and is part of how the pump station operates.

The new control panel will provide power to the pumps, controlled by level devices currently installed inside of the pit, and a user-friendly interface, with clear displays for system function and alarms.

The maintenance and upgrade took about 7 hours to complete, with the team starting at about 7 am and finishing at about 2pm.

We want to emphasise the importance of the maintenance of our pump stations. We encourage our clients to get it serviced on a regular basis at a minimum of every 6 to 12 months.

THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE

Regular pump station maintenance is crucial for optimal performance. We recommend servicing every 6 to 12 months to prevent costly breakdowns and ensure reliable operation. Our expert team is ready to assist with all your pump station needs.
